Irene Pham is a painter, cartoonist, and digital illustrator currently based in Watertown, Connecticut graduating with a B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting and Drawing from the University of Connecticut. Although they are a "painter and drawer," a good portion of their practice involves making comics, graphic memoirs, and books inspired by religious imagery and pop culture such as anime and manga.
During their college career, they received an IDEA Grant for a solo show in VAIS Gallery. The project, titled From Grandfather to Mother, From Mother to Daughter, exhibited nine paintings examining the relationships in their family as Vietnamese immigrants. They also authored graphic memoirs Sore Waters and Mother’s Tongue, Daughter’s Prayer under the same topics, winning the Long River Review Award and being Irene’s BFA Exhibition Senior Project, respectively. Irene also received the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, Cynthia Reeves Snow Scholarship, Doudera Arts Award, and Asian American Studies Scholarship.
