Ever wondered how electricity that is generated millions of kilometres away from us reaches us consistently without any major hiccup? What kind of infrastructure does this massive distribution entail? The majority of today's urban population can't see themselves without the ubiquitous presence of the elixir known as electricity. But this electricity can't be created, stored and provided at a later time; it needs to be used by its consumer no matter how far he or she may reside. The way it is produced and distributed to everyone, by the end reaching our houses and fingertips is no less than what someone without the knowledge of science would call it as magic. And the infrastructure that makes it all possible is one of humanity's most massive engineering feat: The power grid.
In this short course, we will get into a brief overview of what constitutes a power grid and look into some of its fascinating aspects.
