Objective: To provide students with the opportunity to tap into their imaginations using the guidance of the solarpunk movement.
Materials: Paper, pencil, pencil crayons or markers.
Instruction: Firstly, view the above video with your students. Provide time for questions after viewing the video, as this might be the first time many of them have heard of solarpunk.
Secondly, in small groups, invite students to brainstorm how buildings in their own city/town could be modified to fit the solarpunk aesthetic.
Lastly, provide students the opportunity to create a drawing of a building of their choice, within their own city/town that includes the solarpunk modifications. Encourage students to explain different aspects of their modifications using words and arrows.
Follow-up: Have students tape their drawings up around the room. Allow them some time to perform a gallery walk of one another's ideas.
Objective: To provide students with the opportunity to tap into their imaginations using the guidance of the solarpunk movement.
Materials: Paper, pencil, computer to access an AI application approved by your district.
Instruction: Firstly, view the above video with your students. Provide time for questions after viewing the video, as this might be the first time many of them have heard of solarpunk.
Secondly, in small groups, invite students to brainstorm the types of solarpunk ideas that make them excited. Encourage them to write down any ideas that come up that they would want to play around with.
Thirdly, have students write out a description of their solarpunk city. Tell them to be as specific as possible without using the word "solarpunk."
Lastly, invite students to copy and paste their description into the AI application approved by your district to create a visual for their solarpunk-inspired city. At this point, if students want, they can continue to provide the application with additional prompts until the city is representative of the idea in their minds.
Follow-up: Have students head back to their brainstorming groups to read out their descriptions and display the images of their solarpunk-inspired cities.
