It is common to get these two cats mixed up, the reason why is because they are sister species of the neotropical cats. Millions of years ago these cats migrated to the south because of the Panamanian land bridge formation. The differences between these two species are the ocelot is larger and heavier, while the Margay hunts for food mainly in trees and has a longer tail. Putting the differences aside, they share a sad commonality. They are both threatened by habitat loss, hunting, and fragmentation.
