"Welcome to École Nationale d'Abricot de Salinière! Located in Cap-Rouge, in the South East departmentinHaiti, our mission is to provide quality education and opportunities to every child in our community."
"Since 2013, we have been dedicated to shaping young minds, fostering innovation, and ensuring that every child—no matter their background—has access to a bright future through education."
The school is a project of SOFADEC a local organisation for families and community development.
Founded: September 2013
Location: Cap-Rouge, Jacmel, Sud-Est, Haiti
Vision Statement:
"Our goal is to provide holistic education, focusing on academic excellence, life skills, and community engagement. We believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and building a better future for Haiti."
But to fulfill our vision, we adopt a holistic approach that goes beyond the classroom. Education cannot thrive in isolation, so we implement programs that directly benefit both students and the wider community.
Clean Water: Ensuring potable water for children and their families by improving water storage and access.
Food Security & Agriculture: Promoting sustainable agriculture and providing nutritious meals to support students' growth and learning.
Early Childhood Development: Equipping classrooms with books, toys, and educational materials to foster cognitive and emotional development.
Through this comprehensive approach, we empower students and their families to build a stronger, healthier future.
Project Summary
In La Salinière, Cap-Rouge, access to clean water remains a critical challenge for both students and the surrounding community. The existing small cistern, while helpful during the rainy season, is insufficient to meet water needs throughout the year. During the dry season, which lasts up to three months, the cistern runs empty, forcing students to buy plastic water bags, a financial burden for families and a major source of plastic waste.
This project aims to expand the school’s water storage capacity by constructing a larger cistern, ensuring year-round access to safe drinking water. With a budget of $12,000 USD, we will:
Build a higher-capacity cistern to store and provide clean water throughout the year
Reduce the need for plastic water bags, helping the environment
Improve children’s health by ensuring access to safe drinking water
Allow students to focus on learning instead of searching for water
A consistent and reliable water source will benefit over 250 students and families in the community. Healthier children, reduced plastic pollution, and a stronger foundation for education—this is the impact we can create together.
2. Food Security & Agriculture: Promoting sustainable agriculture and providing nutritious meals to support students' growth and learning.
Project Summary
Many children in La Salinière face hunger every day, making it challenging for them to concentrate and absorb their lessons. For some, the meal provided at school is the only food they will eat that day. Although the school has received donations of rice, millet, beans, salt, and oil, these staples alone do not offer the balanced nutrition necessary for proper growth, cognitive development, and overall health. With this initiative, 250 children will have access to at least two complete meals per day, ensuring they receive the nutrients needed to thrive, focus in school, and build a healthier future.
With a budget of $12,000, the project will. This comes up to 50$ per child per year.
Purchase seeds and farming materials for spinach, peas, and other vitamin-rich vegetables to complement the rice and beans diet.
Prepare and plant crops on school and community land to establish a self-sufficient food source.
Host community harvesting days, engaging parents and students in sustainable agriculture practices.
Fund follow-up efforts, ensuring the crops are maintained, harvested, and properly integrated into school meals.
This initiative not only feeds students but also teaches agricultural skills, strengthens community resilience, and promotes long-term food security.
By investing in sustainable agriculture, we create a lasting impact, providing children with the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and succeed.
3. Early Childhood Development: Equipping classrooms with books, toys, and educational materials to foster cognitive and emotional development.
A school is more than just walls and desks—it’s a space where children grow, imagine, and dream. Research confirms that early childhood development is significantly influenced by access to toys, interactive learning tools, and structured play. These resources help develop cognitive, motor, and social skills essential for a child’s long-term academic success.
However, in La Salinière, young children in preschool classrooms have almost no books, toys, or structured learning materials. Without these tools, they miss out on critical early stimulation, making it harder for them to thrive academically and socially.
To bridge this gap, this project aims to provide essential early learning materials for children aged 2 to 5. These include:
Basic Simulation Games – Building blocks, puzzles, and matching games to develop problem-solving and motor skills.
Interactive Learning Materials – Flashcards, picture books, and alphabet mats to support language and literacy development.
Creative Play Resources – Crayons, coloring books, clay, and music instruments to encourage creativity and self-expression.
Role-Playing Sets – Toy kitchens, dolls, and miniature market stands to help children learn social interaction, empathy, and everyday life skills.
By equipping classrooms with these fundamental tools, we can provide young learners in Haiti with the same early learning opportunities available in the highest standar establishment around the world.
Every child deserves the chance to learn through play.
