Water , Vegetables & Education for La Salinière: Giving 250 Children a Future
This school believes that every child deserves access to clean water, nutritious food, and quality education while preserving our environment. In La Salinière in the South-East departement in Haiti, our small but determined team has built a school against all odds. Now, we are working to ensure that 250 children can learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and sustainable environment.
In addition to great education and teachers continuous capacity building we also focus on
1) Access to Clean Water: With only a small rainwater cistern, the school runs out of water for months at a time, forcing children to buy plastic water bags, an environmental and financial burden. We are working on building a larger cistern, ensuring safe drinking water for students and the entire community year-round.
2) Nutritious Meals for Learning: Many children arrive at school hungry, struggling to focus on their lessons. Their only meal is often a simple plate of rice and beans that we donate. We want to plant and grow vegetables like spinach and peas, ensuring a sustainable source of fresh, nutritious food for the children. These vegetables will provide essential vitamins and nutrients for healthy growth and brain development, helping students stay focused and thrive in school.
3) School Materials & Learning Resources: A school is more than just walls—it should be a place of inspiration and possibility. Yet, we still have not enough books, toys, or educational tools for young students. Early childhood development depends on stimulating play and interactive learning, and without these, children miss out on crucial cognitive and emotional growth. We are working on equiping classrooms with the materials children need to thrive.
