Founder and Director of Curriculum
¡Hola! My name is Josue Farnes, and I’m the founder of Clase en Práctica. I’m originally from Guatemala and have lived in the United States for most of my life. I hold a double Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and Global Communities, a Masters of Arts in Teaching and currently back in school for my Ph.D in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations at UNCG. I’ve been teaching Spanish for over six years, with experience in both high school and college settings.
I’m deeply passionate about the Spanish language and committed to helping others connect with it in practical, meaningful ways. My teaching philosophy revolves around community as my central to my practice. I emphasize partnership, among students, with me, and with the world beyond the classroom walls. Whether through group projects, cultural exchanges, or conversations with native speakers, my students experience Spanish as a tool for real-world connection, not just academic success.
I intentionally bring resources beyond the textbook into our space: podcasts, music, film, current events, and conversations with people from across the Spanish-speaking world. These experiences invite students to see language as something vibrant and relevant, and they open doors to deeper cultural understanding and empathy.
I am confident and approachable, and I believe these traits are not just part of my personality, they are part of my pedagogy. When students feel seen and supported, they are more likely to take ownership of their learning. I work hard to ensure students feel that they belong in this space and that their voice, in Spanish or English, is valued.
Whether you’re just beginning or reconnecting with Spanish, I’m excited to walk with you on this journey and help you (re)discover the joy and usefulness of the language.
