Collin College EMS Programs
How intensive are the EMT and Paramedic programs?
Both programs are rigorous and designed to meet state and national certification requirements. EMT schedules range from accelerated to extended evening formats, while Paramedic schedules involve full-day instruction and clinical commitments. Students should expect a significant time commitment.
Can I work while enrolled in the program?
Some schedule options are designed to support working students, including evening EMT schedules and an extended Paramedic format aligned with 24/48 fire department shifts. However, due to the intensity of the coursework, managing additional classes or work obligations outside of the program may be challenging.
Do I need to be sponsored to enroll?
No. While certain schedules are designed with sponsored cohorts and workforce partners in mind, ALL EMT and Paramedic options are open to civilian students as well. Sponsorship may provide additional scheduling flexibility, particularly at the Paramedic level.
What is the difference between the 9-month and 11-month Paramedic schedules?
The 9-month option is a full-time, immersive schedule designed for students who can commit to full-day instruction. The 11-month option extends the timeline to better accommodate working adults, particularly fire department sponsored students on a 24/48 fire department shift schedule, while still meeting all certification requirements.
Where are classes held?
All in-person EMT and Paramedic classes are held at the McKinney Campus ONLY, unless participating in dual credit. Clinical experiences will take place at approved partner sites.
Who should I contact for more information?
Prospective students may contact the EMS Department for general program questions. Sponsored students and workforce partners may also coordinate directly with the EMS Department to discuss cohort options and scheduling.
