Inductive research methods
Presented work at University of Puget Sound Science Seminar Series, and University of Washington's Math Enthusiast Seminar
I worked on a project that utilized an inductive approach to investigating gerrymandered voting districts in the US. My role was largely writing R scripts to clean, derive, analyze, & visualize our data.
Problem solved data visualization & health information communication challenges
Web App Development: shiny R
Created original solutions; Worked independently and taught myself how to write the code for the shiny app we needed
I developed this app to facilitate collaboration across public health organizations in Oregon. It works by allowing users to filter data from Community & State Health Improvement Plans about priority goals. This data would otherwise be buried in extensive documents which posed a time consuming feat when seeking collaborators.

Rebecca investigated at hallmark alzheimer's blood based biomarkers, cognitive status, and the LASSI-L, a test that detect early cognitive changes. She found that performance on the LASSI-L was distinguished amongst those that were cognitively unimpaired + biomarker negative, cognitively impaired + biomarker negative, and those that were cognitively impaired + biomarker positive.
Figures I, II, and III, show that compared to controls (CU Biomarker Neg – light grey), those with aMCI (dark grey and dark teal) performed worse on all measures. Those that were biomarker positive and had aMCI (dark teal) performed worst of all; they learned and retained fewer words (Fig I), had higher intrusion errors and generally fewer correct answers (Fig II), and the proportion of incorrect to correct answers was higher on both lists (Fig III).
FIG 1. A fun way to show the sample demographics
FIG 2. Shows the association between education and test metric (no association is good in this case)
FIG 3. shows pearson's r correlation coefficients and their significance.
In the LASSI-L, a cognitive assessment developed to detect early Alzheimer's, Cued B1 Score measures the effect of Proactive Semantic Interference, an early symptom of prodromal Alzheimer's. This metric was not found to be associated with biases related to education or performance on the WRAT 4 literacy test in a group of 41 Black/African-American older adults.
