Teeth whitening can be argued as one of the main things we strive for aesthetically in our smiles. Some examples of at-home teeth whitening products are teeth whitening strips, toothpaste, and home remedies (such as oil pulling). With many to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide which one. While there are too many to discuss, the best way to have white teeth is to maintain and have a good oral health routine. Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day has shown a significant impact on the appearance of teeth (Benjamin, 2010).

The Infamous Hismile Range
This famous TikTok brand guarantees a whiter smile. Collaborations with famous TikTok stars (e.g., Anna Paul) have ensured this brand is all over our fyp (for you page). In particular, the Hismile V34 Teeth Colour Corrector Serum 30mL claims to use colour-correcting technology as its method against yellow teeth (Hismile, 2024).
The question that you are concerned about is whether it actually works. Well, yes and no. While there has been no peer-reviewed study on the results of using Hismile, one of the key ingredients, PAP (Phthalimidoperoxycaproic Acid), has been shown to reduce artificially induced enamel stains (lab-made stains that mimic real stains on teeth.) However, reducing the enamel colour was ineffective (Müller-Heupt et al., 2023). Further research is needed, but this study shows that PAP is a temporary teeth whitener solution.

In-Office Dental Bleaching
Teeth bleaching can be done in-office by registered dental hygienists, oral health therapists, and dentists. They are registered and certified to use techniques and products with a much higher concentration. Therefore, less product and time will be needed to achieve results. One method dentists can use is carbamide peroxide 16%. A gel containing this is applied to the teeth (the gums are protected). This technique is only done in-office.
Whether you use in-office methods or at-home products, to some extent, they will cause teeth sensitivity (Aidos et al., 2024).
