Things to consider: (Filing packet example here)
Follow USCIS instructions exactly. (Always use the most current version of each form directly from the USCIS website. Double check you’ve signed all the required sections- unsigned forms will be REJECTED.
Organise with a cover letter. List every document in order it appears. This helps USCIS process your application more effectively and shows your packet is well prepared.
Label everything clearly. Use sticky notes, tabs or dividers. Write clear labels such as “Proof of meeting”, “Intent to marry” or “Copy of Petitioners passport”. Avoid Staples, use paper clips or binder clips.
Include only copies of important documents (unless originals are requested). Never send original passports, birth certificates or other important documents unless required. Photocopies are usually acceptable.
Keep it neat and single sided. Print everything one sided to avoid things being missed during scanning. Use plain white paper and make sure all text is legible.
Double check dates and consistency. All dates (first meeting, visits, birthdays etc) should be consistent across forms, letters, and evidence. Inconsistencies can delay your case.
Include strong, varied relationship evidence. Don’t rely on just photos. Add wording passes, emails, video chat screenshots, cards or social media posts to show your relationship is on going and genuine.
Write a concise “Intent to marry” letters. Each partner should write a s short letter stating their intent to marry within 90 days of entering the US. Make it personal, honest and signed by hand.
Make and keep copies of everything you need. Scan or photocopy the entire packet before mailing it. This is important in case something gets lost or USCIS request clarification.
Use a reliable mailing method. Send your packet via a trackable and signed for delivery services. (USPS Priority Mail with tracking, FedEx or UPS). This gives you proof that USCIS received it.
