My name is Emi Sim, and I am a senior at Carlmont High School. After joining Carlmont's journalism program, I discovered my true love for writing.
Journalism has not only given me the opportunity to share stories, but I have also met countless people, gained new perspectives, and obtained valuable skills in the process. Journalism drives me to dig deeper, uncovering hidden sides of topics and fueling my curiosity through research and interviews. In writing for my school's news site, Scot Scoop, my interest in writing and the English language has immensely expanded, and I have been exposed to a number of new interests, including graphic design and photography.
During my senior summer, I had the opportunity to intern as a night copy editor for UC Berkeley's student-run news publication, the Daily Californian. There, I copy edited articles, wrote headlines and captions, met with the Daily Cal Night Department, and even wrote my own article for the publication's language and grammar blog, Strikeout.
This 2025-2026 school year, I am excited to be an editor on Scot Scoop. My job is to revise and publish articles as well as write editorials on behalf of the editorial board. Outside of school, I'm eager to work as a design intern for the Belmont Water Dog Run.
Aside from journalism, I also find joy in playing volleyball, playing the flute, traveling with my family, and finding new food spots with friends.
