In fall 2022, I completed an internship in a Grade 4/5 classroom within Regina Public Schools. I taught engaging Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health, and Arts Education classes following provincial curricula to both grades throughout my experience. Throughout these classes, I assessed students using a variety of formative and summative methods, used the feedback to inform and adapt my planning and instructional strategies, and shared marks and student successes or concerns with families and parents in a timely manner.
I communicated and collaborated daily with my cooperating teacher, the administrative team, LRTs, schools counsellors and psychologists, specialist teachers, and other team members about student needs and safety. I also co-constructed classroom expectations with the students and implemented inclusive practices such as flexible seating, fidgets, body breaks, and individualized plans when needed. I contributed to the development of ROAs and differentiated my instruction, assessment, and behavioural expectations to ensure all students succeeded academically and socially in the classroom.
I also provided extra-curricular opportunities to students by co-coaching the Grade 6-8 Girls' volleyball team, preparing for (and volunteering at) the "Merry & Bright" Winter Family Night, and contributing to the school Values Committee.
