8th Grade Careers Presenters

While teaching an 8th Grade Careers exploratory class, I reached out to alumnus from the school and invited them to come to share about their career and how they get where they are today. I made sure to ask individuals from a wide variety of job backgrounds as well as postsecondary education experiences. It was incredibly powerful for the students to hear from someone who once was an 8th grader at their school and to understand more about different careers.

Youth Mental Health Parent & Community Event: Tell My Story

While serving as a school counselor, I worked with an organization called Tell My Story to put on a parent and community event with the Christian school in town to shed light on how caregivers or those who work with youth can better support youth and their mental health. The event consisted of a film screening called "What I Wish My Parents Knew" from real students who have struggled with their mental health sharing their story, a live Zoom in with CEO of Tell My Story Jason Reid, a presentation on the science behind mental health, and a Q&A with a panel of mental health professionals from our area. There were more than 200 people in attendance, and it was a fantastic way to start the conversation about supporting youth and their mental health.
