What is crewing?
Crewing involves working closely with the director, technical teams and management of other departments such as props. They have the responsibility of looking after equipment, setting up and putting away, props, costumes, sets, lighting and so on. The goal is to make sure everything runs smoothly on stage and offstage. Different skills are needed because of all the different departments, for example for prop management involves using organisation, making sure they're not damaged, they are all counted for, making sure they are in the right place. It is important to keep quiet backstage, have good communication with your team and stage manager and be able to work well in a team.

My Job is to look after glasses and bottles, keep them clean and organised.
We wen through the script and made a list of all alcohol mentioned so we could see what types of bottles we may need and have on show. I added a little description about what the alcohol was because there were a few where we had no idea.
Once seeing what alcohol was mentioned we looked through the bottles we already had and counted them. Once that was done we ticked all the ones that we had and kept note of what we need.
To clean bottles and glasses we used two washing bowls, one to wash inside and outside then the second was in the sink and we just rinsed all the soap off.
To dry them we faced them down in the cart and on one of the bar mats. Facing them down just made sure no marks would appear and all the water would run down and dry quicker and better. Glasses that were needed sooner for rehearsals we just used the mats to dry by hand.
We kept all bottles and glasses stored together, that way none would go missing. Glasses are wrapped in bubble wrap so that if they are moved, it just redueces the chance of them breaking and making a lot of noise.
Bullseye branded bottles were needed so these were cut out and stuck on by Felicia Mills.
Risk: water spillage
Neither more or less likely to happen
Preventing:
Clean up right away if it happens.
Keep them in a box or crate that will not let any water out.
Place tea towels underneath when drying.
Risk: breaking of the glass or bottle
Neither more or less likely to happen
Preventing:
Keep in a secure box
Hold firmly
Do not hold more than you can
Risk: undried or soap residue
Preventing:
Rinse thoroughly under water a few times to be sure.
First thing is to check what does need cleaning and doing it straight away. Use a new sponge and make sure there is enough time before the show for them to dry naturally. Make sure with actor's and stage management that we have the correct number of glasses out. Make sure bottles are all filled, this should all work if I am communicating with Felicia and stage management.
Day of performance:
I was told glasses were cleaned , there were some marks from where they had not been dried properly, I was not able to get it off with just a towel mat so I cleaned them again in the sink and rinsed them thoroughly. I faced them down to dry naturally before the show in the afternoon, facing them helped avoid the same kind of marks happening again.
Skills I had to use:
Organisation and good communication were most important skills to use to do the best job. During the start of this production and rehearsals I think that is when I used these skills the strongest because I was working with Fru and we gave ourselves different areas in glassware to work in. We began with seeing what bottles we had and needed, looking at what glasses we had and then deciding how we were going to clean the bottles. Everything at this stage went great and I think it did stay pretty consistent. I do think in some rehearsals I could have maybe communicated better with Fru and stage management because sometimes I had to be told first if bottles needed filling, when it did get to the final shows I did improve and just gave myself a plan of as soon as arriving to clean bottles (if they needed) and glasses and communicating with Fru to make sure we had completed everything that was expected of us in that department.
