For this project I researched the impacts of social media on others and myself.
After taking the quiz, my result was: "You’re FAIRLY RELIANT on social media"
"You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?"
I agree on this result from the quiz, I tend to spend around 3-4 hours on social media when i'm not busy, so I will try to cut down the time even more as I can use that time for other productive activities.
The most interesting statistic I came across were the age gaps of social media users for each social media platform.
This section of the article is interesting because it highlights how social media habits differ among age groups, particularly showing that adults under 30 are more active on platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. This trend is significant because it indicates where younger audiences are spending their time online and how they are consuming and sharing content.
Social media impacts society by changing how we communicate, share information, and stay informed. It raises awareness about important issues, helps businesses market products, and mobilizes social movements. While it fosters cultural exchange and self-expression, it can also lead to mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Overall, social media has both positive and negative effects on our lives and interactions.
From social media, we've learned it has changed how we connect and communicate globally. It spreads information quickly, helping raise awareness but also spreading misinformation. It's powerful for advocacy and mobilizing causes. Businesses use it to market and engage with customers. However, it can impact mental health, so mindful use is essential. It fosters cultural exchange and self-expression but raises privacy and authenticity concerns. These lessons highlight social media's complex and significant influence on our lives.
