Principal Investigator

Halszka Bąk, PhD

Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the Faculty of English, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland. Author of “Emotional Prosody Processing for Non-Native English Speakers. Towards an Integrative Emotion Paradigm” (2016). Recipient of the 2017 Sonata 13 grant from the National Science Center, Poland. Member of the Psychonomic Society since 2016, and a recipient of the Select Member Speaker Award for the 58th Psychonomics in Vancouver, Canada. Member of the International Society for Research on Emotions (ISRE). Current research project focuses on cataloguing basic emotion terms in Polish and English, collecting a variety of psycholinguistic measures for them, and exploring the linguistic and psycho-affective variables within these collections of words.

Collaborator, Co-Author, Mentor

Jeanette Altarriba, PhD

Director of the Cognition and Language Laboratory since 1992. She directs a research program in the areas of bilingual language processing, second language acquisition, and emotion, attention, memory, and cognition. Her research has appeared in numerous scientific journals, including the International Journal of Bilingualism, American Journal of Psychology, Journal of Memory and Language, Memory and Cognition, Perception and Psychophysics, Cognition & Emotion, Visual Cognition, and Professional Psychology: Research and Practice. She has edited five books and authored multiple book chapters.

Dr. Altarriba has distinguished herself as a mentor and advisor to students. Her efforts have been recognized internationally by the American Psychological Association through the Dalmas A. Taylor Distinguished Contributions Award and the Early Career Achievement Award in Teaching and Training. Her commitment to teaching, mentoring and student support has also been recognized in the Department of Psychology and University-wide through numerous awards including the University and Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Academic Service, the President’s Award for Leadership, the Amazing Ally Award for work promoting LGBTQ equity and diversity, and awards for Outstanding Achievement in Student Advisement and Mentoring.

Olga Witczak, MA

Olga is a graduate student at the Faculty of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, a member of the Department of Translation Studies, and a Lab Assistant at the Language and Communication Research.

Within the EmCat Project she was one of the Research Assistants with the enormous task of collecting data for the Polish arm of the study.

Bartosz is a graduate student at the Faculty of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, a member of the Department of Contemporary English Language, and a Lab Assistant at the Language and Communication Research.
