"Ja'Nelle attended my postpartum doula training, and she was one of those students that I knew I would not forget. Passionate about perinatal work, an engaged learner, and an incredible advocate. I would not hesitate to hire Ja'Nelle as my doula if I were having another baby!"
[Jen Chandlee - Postpartum Doula Trainer]
I cannot recommend Embrace Doula Co.'s services enough! From the consultation call to the moment Ja’Nelle entered our home, she brought a sense of calm, order, and reassurance to me as a mom of 2 under 2! She single-handedly made my postpartum experience so much smoother despite some unexpected after-birth health complications and changing family dynamics. Ja’Nelle’s expertise and compassionate care are worth every penny. I wouldn’t consider having another baby if I couldn’t ensure that I could secure her services again for me and my family.
Ja’Nelle provided practical support with breastfeeding, mental health check-ins, newborn care, sibling care, and assistance with folding clothes + meal prep! Her help allowed me to focus on recovery, rest, and bonding with my newborn. It was also extremely comforting to know she also was able to keep my 2-year-old entertained when she came. Ja’Nelle was always available to answer questions and offer solutions to any concerns I shared.
Lastly, beyond her professional skills, Ja’Nelle is warm, and wise beyond her years, and has a nurturing presence that made a significant difference in our family’s well-being. She was attentive to our needs, respectful of our space, and always went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. These days it’s nerve-racking to let someone who isn’t a family friend or family member in your home, especially when you have young children but I instantly felt comfortable with Ja’Nelle. She is professional and personable. Having her as our postpartum doula was one of the best decisions we made, and we are incredibly grateful for her dedication and support. I wish every mother had the chance to receive services from a company such as Embrace Doula Co.! Thank you for all you do!

From the very beginning, Ja’Nelle was one of the most grounding, supportive, and empowering presences throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. As a first-time mom planning an unmedicated, natural hospital birth, I felt deeply prepared and confident going into labor because of her. Unfortunately, everything went sideways - after hours of pushing, I ultimately needed an epidural and then a crash C-section. It was not the birth I had envisioned, and it was incredibly intense and emotional.
Through every single moment, Ja’Nelle was there.
She advocated for me with providers, helped uphold my birth plan as much as possible, and - most importantly - supported me with compassion and steadiness when we had to shift plans quickly. She stayed calm, created a sense of safety, and was incredibly mindful of my past trauma, limiting unnecessary people and touch in the room to help avoid CPTSD symptoms. I truly believe her presence made a difficult and scary situation feel manageable and safe.
Emotionally, Ja’Nelle was everything I could have needed. I struggled deeply with guilt around getting an epidural and having a C-section, and she supported me through that without a single ounce of judgment. She helped me understand that I had no choice - and that the strength it took to bring my daughter into the world safely mattered far more than the way she arrived. Because of her, I felt seen, heard, validated, and empowered, even when things didn’t go as planned.
She also did an incredible job supporting my partner - helping him feel confident, prepared, and able to truly show up for me during labor and delivery. We both felt like a team because of her guidance.
Her postpartum support went far beyond anything I expected. Ja’Nelle checked in daily, was emotionally available at all times, and even physically came with me to the barn so I could spend time with my horse - something that was incredibly important for my emotional healing. I trusted her with my baby more than anyone besides my partner, which says everything. She has continued to check in, cheer me on, and show genuine love for my daughter even eight months later.
Ja’Nelle is not just a doula - she is a steady presence, a fierce advocate, and an incredible human. I would recommend her to absolutely anyone, and especially to someone with trauma in their past who needs to feel truly safe, respected, and supported.
If you are looking for a doula who will advocate fiercely, support you without judgment, and walk beside you with calm, compassion, and strength - no matter how your birth unfolds - Ja’Nelle is that person.

"Ja’Nelle has been an incredible source of strength, knowledge, and comfort throughout my entire journey. From the very beginning, she took the time to truly understand my husband and I’s needs and made us feel supported every step of the way. She has truly been a blessing throughout my pregnancy, during my delivery, and even now in postpartum.
During labor, the moment she walked into the room everything shifted. With her guidance, the grounding breathing techniques, the intentional movements, the different positions she walked me through, the calming ambient lighting, and her steady emotional presence — my body responded. I went from 3 cm to 10 cm in under two hours. It felt like she helped unlock something in me that allowed my labor to progress safely and powerfully, and ultimately I was able to deliver without an epidural.
Even my OB-GYN was impressed with her. She stated that she wished more patients had someone like Ja’Nelle, because she made such a noticeable difference in the energy of the room and the flow of my labor. Hearing a doctor say that only confirmed what I already knew: she is exceptional.
Ja’Nelle’s support didn’t end after birth. She has continued to check in on my husband and me, making sure we’re emotionally supported, adjusting well, and not feeling alone in the postpartum transition. That level of care is so rare, and we are truly grateful for her presence in our lives. If you are looking for a doula who is deeply intuitive, emotionally grounding, incredibly knowledgeable, and genuinely committed to your family’s well-being, Ja’Nelle is everything you could hope for and more."

"My daughter's birth and postpartum doula was Ja'Nelle Thompson. She was my daughters birth doula from June 2024 to February 2025 and still made postpartum home visits to offer postpartum support in September of 2025 when my grand-daughter was 7 months old. She was amazing with the birth process, as my daughter is a single mother by choice. Ja'Nelle came to the hospital everyday that Christina was in labor. She used all of her tools, including music, lighting, essential oils and so much more. She made sure that the doctors listened to Christina about having a natural and vaginal delivery. Ja'Nelle also did so much more such as take pictures, assisted with baby's first latch to ensure Christina could breastfeed as she requested. I would 100% recommend her to be your birth and postpartum doula."
[Marianne Wendel - Grandmother's Review]
As a second-time mom, I thought I had a pretty good idea about what to expect. I was looking more for support during the labor process itself in case my husband had to go take care of our eldest child. But I still learned so much from Ja'Nelle while preparing for birth! Ja'Nelle was really flexible with our schedules and took the time to explain everything to me. I was much better prepared for my hospital stay as a result. I really appreciated her coming to our house and showing my husband and I how to labor at home and manage pain. It was really helpful for him to have clear instructions on what to do during the process and he supported me really well during the birth as a result! Day of went really well! Ja'Nelle was always available and she had a lot of non-medicated pain management techniques that helped me have an unmedicated birth which went way better than my first time! And then of course I appreciated the postpartum support, especially when my husband had to go away for
a weekend and I was managing a toddler and a newborn for the first time.
Anyway, highly recommend Ja'Nelle, even for second-time parents!

Ja'Nelle is wonderful to work with. She is attentive, caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable. She made me feel more comfortable with my birthing experience. I highly recommend her services to expecting mothers. Furthermore, she makes sure black and brown women have full autonomy and are empowered while navigating through the mainstream healthcare system.
[Fayth Allgire]
I don't know where to start! I wanted to be a VBAC Mom this go around. I previously had two c-sections, and this was my third, My Precious Little Goddess! Although I was unable to do a VBAC, for different reasons and concerns from my doctor, Ja'Nelle played her part amazingly. Every call and text answered. Every question answered, with resources to back it up or add to.
Ja'Nelle was even there to just give advice, encouragement and motivation through life's hardships that disrupted me during my journey. Every Mama needs a Doula! They are instrumental in being able to actually enjoy and be present in your pregnancy journey, in giving yourself grace and time in healing, and in remembering that every Mama's journey and healing is not the same, nor does it look the same.
Even postpartum, with my Fiancé working all day and night, and me barely ever taking a moment to nap, just in constant motion for the family, Ja'Nelle reminded me once again, self-care is just as important and that I have to find that time. Our last day together I planned on asking her to help with some of the 'same ol' around the house task and after walking around my entire pregnancy with four big pigtails in my hair lol she asked "would you like for me to do your hair for you?" You better believe I took her up on that offer! Ja'Nelle, thank you, from the family, once again, for your time, your energy, and your assistance!
[Torrey, Charlene, Osaro, Jakari, and Zarriah]
There is no possible way to truly put into words the impact Ja’Nelle had on our birth experience, and continues to have on our lives. Choosing her as my doula was one of the best decisions I made surrounding my birth. From the check ins, prenatal visits, labor support, and postpartum care…everything is top notch with Embrace Doula Co. and worth way more than the package price.
Even if you have family support I highly recommend still getting a Doula. Research supports a significant reduction in cesareans with a doula, but you also get someone familiar with the inner workings of birth care in your area. Ja'Nelle is also well versed in the medical field, which made me even more comfortable with her support. Many doulas do not also have formal education in the area of medicine, this was a plus for me! During my birth, Ja’Nelle created a relaxing and safe space, advocated on my behalf, was hands on with birth support and pain management, and was emotionally present for my family. I was very close to requiring a caesarean, but the team worked together to prevent that.
My husband is also so grateful that Ja’Nelle was there through it all, over 30 hours, from early in the labor to safe and sound in recovery, to guide, advocate, and support. We can truly tell that this is not a job for her, this is a true God given calling!
While no one can truly predict what will happen in birth, it feels good to have a plan and support person that is objective to help you understand what you are deciding. Now as I navigate my postpartum journey, Ja’Nelle is still very involved, ensuring that baby and I are doing ok and educating my family. I can feel her love, care, and genuine concern for us. I cannot recommend Ja’Nelle enough, she’s family to us now. Oriana is also wonderful, we happened to have spent majority of our time with Ja’Nelle; however, have been more than comfortable with the support from Oriana when she joined the Embrace Doula team!

I reached out to Embrace Doula Co. during labor with my second child, and from the very beginning, Ja’Nelle brought a sense of calm, clarity, and empowerment that I didn’t even realize I needed. Though this was my second pregnancy, the experience was completely different from my first — and in the best possible way. Ja’Nelle gave me comfort and language during labor, helping me to connect with and truly listen to my body. She reminded me that I had the strength, wisdom, and right to advocate for myself and my baby, which made all the difference. I felt seen, supported, and truly *heard* — something that’s often rare in birth spaces. Her support didn’t end at delivery. She remained present during my postpartum journey, offering encouragement and reassurance, especially as I navigated breastfeeding…. Which I’m proud to say I’m still continuing with my 9-month-old. Ja’Nelle has been nothing short of amazing. Her presence, care, and deep knowledge were a gift during one of the most vulnerable and powerful times in my life. I would absolutely contact her again for *anything* related to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She’s truly someone you want by your side.

Working with Ja'Nelle has been a life-changing experience for me and my family. After undergoing an emergency C-section with my daughter Giavanna, I was recovering more slowly than expected while caring for four children under the age of five — all as a single mom. On top of that, I was still grieving and healing emotionally after leaving a domestic violence situation the year prior. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and in desperate need of real support.
Ja'Nelle stepped in during one of the hardest seasons of my life and became exactly what my family and I needed. She helped me successfully breastfeed for the first time — something I had always wanted to do, but never had the proper support or patience from anyone before. That alone was such a powerful, healing experience.
She also helped with meal planning and prep, which was a huge relief when I had no time or energy to figure out what to cook with everything going on. She was incredible with my kids — engaging with all of them and giving me rare moments to rest and take care of myself. Those breaks were so needed.
What truly set Ja'Nelle apart was how she brought structure and peace into my home. She gently guided me in building routines and parenting with more confidence and intention. And beyond all of the practical help, Ja'Nelle grounded everything she did with wisdom, compassion, and a faith in God that deeply encouraged me. That spiritual connection may not be for everyone, but for me, it helped shift my life onto a much healthier, more hopeful path.
Today, I can honestly say that my kids and I are not just surviving — we are thriving. Ja'Nelle is so much more than a doula; she’s a true blessing. If you're in a hard season or just need genuine, heart-centered support, she is absolutely worth it. She's a vessel of healing and hope, sent to help families like mine move forward.

"Where do I even begin? Ja'Nelle was the most incredible doula we could have hoped for. My wife wanted to deliverer our first baby naturally, and we knew it would be challenging, and it was, but Ja'Nelle made the entire journey feel far less overwhelming. She spent so much time preparing with us before the birth, and during our labor, she was truly a superstar, going above and beyond to support my wife and even me. Thanks to her calm and confident presence, expertise, and care, we both felt more comfortable and confident every step of the way. I cannot recommend her highly enough."
[ Evan Henris' ]
Born and raised in Germany, my only family here is my husband and his family. Because of that, an emotional and caring connection to my doula was my top priority, and I could not have made a better choice. Before I met Ja’Nelle, I had a very transactional consultation with another doula that left me heartbroken and lost. It felt like she was not interested in me as a person, and that it was simply a job to her. During my consultation with Ja’Nelle, she explained her holistic, whole-family approach, and I just started crying. Being a doula is not a job for her, it is her true calling, her gift to care for and guide families through the journey of childbirth. I knew immediately that she was the one. During my entire journey, I’ve never felt so loved and cared for. I still remember the first thing Ja’Nelle said when she came to my baby shower: “Have you eaten?” That was her very first question when she saw me. I froze for a second, taken aback by her genuine care. My wellbeing was always her top priority.
During my pregnancy, she regularly checked on me and wrote the longest texts to answer my questions and curiosities. When I opened up to her about my childhood trauma, Ja’Nelle listened and made me feel heard and empowered to become a mom. She even wrote me a heartfelt, two-page-long letter full of validation, empathy, and love that made me feel ready for the journey ahead.
During labor, she was my rock. I wanted a natural birth without induction and without an epidural, but when the contractions kicked in, I was ready to give up. I could not stand the pain any longer. Ja’Nelle knew my wish to stay natural and offered so many alternative methods that I quickly forgot about possibly getting an epidural. She gently tied my hair in a bun between contractions, kept me hydrated, and continuously offered different comfort techniques that aligned with my preferences. She guided my husband, showing him how to best support me, and created a calm, home-like atmosphere in the delivery room that felt warm and safe. She had even helped me create a personalized birth vision board beforehand, which made the experience so deeply intentional. Every detail was cared for, every need anticipated. I simply followed her lead — a gentle, steady, and experienced presence guiding me through the most extreme experience of my life.
Despite the long and tiring experience, Ja’Nelle stayed with us after birth until we were completely settled. She made sure I rehydrated, looked out for my husband who has type 1 diabetes, helped me with latching, took family pictures, and even ordered room service from the hospital menu to make sure I stayed nourished. She thought of everything and made sure we had everything we needed before she left. Reflecting on my experience with Ja’Nelle, I know I could not have made a better choice. And I know, if I decide to go on this journey again, who I am going to call first, Ja’Nelle.
If you want a doula who becomes your friend and family member, I wholeheartedly recommend Ja’Nelle Thompson.

"1000 stars. This was more than just a typical doula experience. Me and my wife are first time parents and she made us feel like family. The time and effort she put in to make sure we were educated and comfortable was top tier. It’s nobody else that we would’ve wanted to have on this journey with us! "
[Derick Landrum II]
"Ja’Nelle is amazing! She is very educated and informative and we learned a lot about pregnancy and birth. She is attentive and compassionate. She was there for us every time we had a concern. Also she has a beautiful personality and very friendly. I am so grateful and happy to have her with us during our pregnancy journey. Looking forward to working with her again in the future."

"I’ve had the opportunity to encounter Embrace Doula Co. within the last 2-3 years. I unfortunately wasn’t able to hire Ja’Nelle do to some health insurance issues but after having my second child, she so kindly gave me some very helpful information and advice that I remembered while I was in labor with my 3rd child and what she said to me actually helped me deliver him at home with just my husband and I. I had no complications, we were brought to the hospital awards via medic and shocked the entire medical staff because of how vibrant and lively we were after giving birth at home with no medical professional around. Ja’Nelle is very knowledgeable, very caring, and is able to tailor things to your specific needs. She really does go above and beyond and I would highly recommend her services if you are pregnant, thinking about getting pregnant, etc. Her client care and support is outstanding. You, your baby, and your family will be in good hands!"

"The owner, Ja'Nelle, of Embrace Doula Co. has created such an amazing journey for those who are embarking on mother and fatherhood. She is truly dedicated to the families that entrust her by offering continuous emotional support, information about choices, and physical assistance to ease labor. Her packages are the best I've seen loaded with CARE. Her ability to empower and comfort patients is remarkable. She is an invaluable asset and God-led!"

"Our family was blessed to have Ja’Nelle Thompson as a caretaker for both of our daughters from the age of 12 weeks. Providing a combination of care, patience, and activities, our girls were always happy to hear Ms. Ja’Nelle was coming. While adapting and assisting with our often unpredictable needs and work schedules, Ja’Nelle was always prompt and reliable, bringing a pairing of no-nonsense directness & nurturing that gave us confidence and stability as we navigated being a working family and new parents. We are forever grateful for her contributions to the growth of our family and wish her well, and recommend her in the strongest terms."
[Erik, Karen, Lilly & Mary Molitor]
"My husband and I decided to hire a doula for our first pregnancy to ensure we were fully prepared. Ja'Nelle was everything we'd hope for. We learned so much information from her that is not provided at the doctors or the hospital. While my nurses were amazing I know that having Ja'Nelle there made the experience smooth. We for sure are going to be using her again for our next pregnancy. She is very detailed and helpful, 10/10 recommend to anyone."
[Rafi, Sidra & Zayan]
"Most of all, we want to thank Ja'Nelle, our doula, for her incredible support during our prenatal, labor and birth, and postnatal, and til this day, she helps me with such great advice. I highly recommend 'Embrace Doula Co.' to any woman or family that needs unlimited and loving support, for a great reasonable price. The support at birth was very helpful! Ja'Nelle made me feel heard and seen. She never left me and my partner's side. Being that this was my first pregnancy/birth experience, it was really scary and nerve-racking, yet exciting. I had a very difficult labor and birth; which started off with me being in labor for 48 hours, and unfortunately ending in a C-section. Nevertheless, Ja'Nelle helped me feel comfortable and strong enough to make the decision to have a C-section that I was afraid to have.
I thank God for Ja'Nelle and will work with her again if and when we decide to expand our family. Again, I highly recommend Ja'Nelle and her incredible service!
Also, my little munchkin is very thankful for Ja'Nelle and is continuing to grow every day. He's currently 4 months!"

I want to start this review by saying there is not enough words to really express my gratitude for having Ja'Nelle in my family's life. Before hiring Ja'Nelle for her services I never understood why a doula was so important to have. I am realize now why a doula is mandatory to have when you are expecting a child. I really felt that Monique and I could really handle anything that this pregnancy brought our way. Getting advice from family members that had children before or from our parents seemed as if that would be enough. Yea, I could not be so wrong. Every crucial piece of advice given to us by Ja'Nelle was significantly helpful throughout the transitions of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. There is not enough words that can express how grateful I am for Ja'Nelle being there. The moments at the hospital where I was stuck and forgot everything she taught us, the fact that she was there made the pregnancy much easier to deal with.
Sometimes as men we right off opportunities or help from people because we do not see the benefits initially. But I am so happy I ate my pride and decided to add Ja'Nelle to the family. Thats right she is family Now.

Having Ja’Nelle as our prenatal, birth, and postpartum doula was an amazing experience! From the prenatal visits preparing my husband and I for birth and beyond, to the monthly check-ins and more, Ja’Nelle has been a great support. Having been on the fence about a home birth – especially for our first child – she supported us from day 1. As soon as we had our 30-minute consultation I knew Ja’Nelle was the perfect fit to be our birth and postpartum doula. She continued to be extremely thorough and informative every step of the way. We learned so much from her as she prepared us for our home birth. I was scared, to say the least, but having Ja’Nelle believe that I could do an unmedicated home birth, as well as provide the tools to do so was extremely helpful. Having a ‘mock” birth was a big deal for us to be successful in our journey and Ja’Nelle provided that for us. From educational Zoom visits to prepare us for our breastfeeding journey to the home visits prepping us for labor, Ja’Nelle was there! She is responsive, detailed, and caring in every way. Using the tools she taught us we were able to welcome our beautiful baby girl into the world safely at home. We knew what to expect and overall had a wonderful birthing experience. We are so glad we met Ja’Nelle when we did and so grateful we have her as our doula!
[The Lippe Family]
I couldn’t have met Ja'Nelle at a perfect time! I met Ja'Nelle at my OBGYN office. I came in for a prenatal appointment, she asked me if I had a doula and I was honestly clueless about what a doula was. After exchanging contacts, the rest was history! Ja'Nelle became my doula and was so attentive during the rest of my pregnancy. I learned so much during our meetings, things I never even would’ve thought of and certain things to include in my birth plan. With the help of the most amazing doula, the birth of my baby was a great experience. Ja'Nelle was there every step of the way. From the time I was being induced to going into labor and giving birth, she was there and never left my side. Even 7 months later after delivery, she still communicated and checked on us. So thankful to have run into Ja'Nelle. Such blessing!

Dear Ja’Nelle
As we reflect on our journey, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for your presence and support. You created a calm and nurturing environment, allowing us to focus on the joy and miracle of bringing our baby into the world. Beyond your professional role, you became a friend and confidante. Your genuine care and concern for our well-being, both physical and emotional, have left an indelible mark on our hearts. Your presence was a source of strength during the difficult moments and a shared joy during the celebrations. We cannot thank you enough for the countless ways you have touched our lives. Your dedication and passion for what you do are truly inspiring. You have become a treasured member of our family, and we feel incredibly blessed to have you in our lives.
We are beyond grateful for the exceptional care and support provided by Ja’Nelle during the birth of Jacob. From the moment we met, it was clear that she was not just a doula but a compassionate and dedicated professional who genuinely cares about her clients. Ja’Nelle brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise, which gave us confidence and reassurance throughout the entire process. Her calming presence and nurturing approach were exactly what we needed during labor and delivery. She created a serene environment that allowed us to focus on the joy of welcoming our baby. What sets Ja’Nelle apart is her deep empathy and genuine connection with the families she supports. She became an integral part of our journey, offering unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement. Her kindness and warmth have left an everlasting impression on our hearts. We highly recommend Ja’Nelle to anyone seeking a doula who goes above and beyond. She has become a beloved member of our family, and we will forever cherish the memories we made together.
With heartfelt thanks,
[Jason and Kenya - The Mason Family]
I made an instant connection with Ja’Nelle and trusted her to support me during my first pregnancy. Her caring and loving encouragement helped me and my small family in many ways. Ja'Nelle provided me with resources and ideas to make my life easier and to help me transition into motherhood. Thank you, Ja’Nelle for being a part of my journey to becoming a mother. I highly recommend her for doula services.

"During my postpartum, it was hard to produce breast milk, especially with a decreased appetite. Ja'Nelle was very patient and understanding with my emotions about raising my first child and not feeling like I could “ provide” what he needed. She suggested the things I should eat to help with the flow and a few days later my breast milk came in! Thank you Embrace Doula Co."
[ Jackie & Judah ]
" My experience using Embrace Doula was amazing. It wasn’t just a service that I got, it was a special kind of love and care. You can tell Ja’Nelle truly cares about her clients. I may not have had her for the birth, but I had her for everything else! Throughout my pregnancy, she checked in daily! Not just on my physical health but my emotional, mental, and spiritual health too. Through postpartum, she did the same as well, and she even made sure I had all the knowledge on keeping up my breastmilk supply while avoiding all the things I’m allergic to. If I had a question that she didn't have the answer to, she was SURE going to find it. If you need a doula in the northern Virginia area, @embracedoula.co @speak_janelle is the way to go!!! You will not be disappointed. She is a doula who became family. We love her so much. "
