I am Ema Štarkl (she/they), a linguistics phd student and teaching assistant at the Center for Cognitive Science of Language (CKZJ) at University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia.
I got my BA and MA at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
I am primarily interested in generative morpho-syntax. I've recetnly worked on verbal morphology of Slovene and BCMS, and the syntax of the imperative-subjunctive system, specifically Slovene embedded imepratives. I am currently working on developing a topic for my dissertation. I am a part of the projects Multifunctionality in Morphology and The behavior of Czech and Slovene clitics here, at CKZJ.
Previously, I worked at the Dialectology department of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language of the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, as a researcher at the Adaptive Natural Language Processing with the Help of Large Language Models project.
To find my publications, upcoming talks and unpublished manuscripts, see Research.
In my free time, I enjoy bouldering, art cinema, and live music. I am a founding member of a music production non-profit Ba kanal where we are building a digital library of Slovene original music by young and aspiring artists.
