Are your students career ready? Do your students need some helpful tips on writing professional emails? Do they lack the experience to enter the workforce where they might be required to send emails to their boss or colleagues in order to be productive and professional at their job? If so, this unit will give them the depth necessary to send professional emails. This unit was put together using Chat GPT and Goblin Tools. These AI tools can be beneficial to educators and students alike. Chat GPT was used and credited throughout the unit. Goblin Tools is an amazing tool that allows users to paste in emails or written information onto the site to check for professionalism. It can also predict tone, so students will be able to see if their tone is offensive. Like any other AI tool, students still need to double check the information generated on these sites to be sure it is accurate or beneficial. If not, they can revise and edit any information that needs revision.
“In today's digital era, this lesson holds significant importance. The impact of email etiquette on job security cannot be overstated, with numerous instances of job losses attributed to poor email practices. A compiled list, generated by ChatGPT, will be provided, detailing actions that can jeopardize one's employment based on their email conduct.” ~ChatGPT Most resources will be provided on the Directions’ slide. Before the lesson begins, students will engage in an activity centered around sarcasm. Given its potential to be misinterpreted and cause confusion or tension, this activity aims to enhance their awareness and understanding of sarcasm. This lesson requires students to look at a variety of real life scenarios. Each scenario has 2 emails to choose from. Students must pick the more professional email based on criteria provided in the unit. Once they make their decision on which email they would send, they must justify their decision with details. After looking at 5 different scenarios and choosing which email they would send, they must rewrite a rude and sarcastic email to be more professional. They will not be able to use the Goblin tool for this. They must rewrite the email in their words. Afterwards, they can utilize the Goblin Tool using the Judge and Formalize Tools. The final part of the unit requires students to write their own email based on a scenario and test it with the Goblin Tool’s App. Students will be able to use this tool in the future to double check for professionalism. Goblin Tools has other features to explore as well.
