Before the lesson begins, students will engage in an activity centered around sarcasm. Given its potential to be misinterpreted and cause confusion or tension, this activity aims to enhance their awareness and understanding of sarcasm. This lesson requires students to look at a variety of real life scenarios. Each scenario has 2 emails to choose from. Students must pick the more professional email based on criteria provided in the unit. Once they make their decision on which email they would send, they must justify their decision with details. After looking at 5 different scenarios and choosing which email they would send, they must rewrite a rude and sarcastic email to be more professional. They will not be able to use the Goblin tool for this. They must rewrite the email in their words. Afterwards, they can utilize the Goblin Tool using the Judge and Formalize Tools.  The final part of the unit requires students to write their own email based on a scenario and test it with the Goblin Tool’s App.  Students will be able to use this tool in the future to double check for professionalism. Goblin Tools has other features to explore as well.
