An independent human rights organization with members of different nationalities, concerned with immigrants and immigration, seeking to integrate immigrants and allow them to highlight their skills and qualifications to access work, study, volunteer, and integration into society. It targets immigrants of different nationalities and seeks to be a link between immigrants and competent authorities.
The problem:
Because of the escalating crises and wars in many countries of the world, many people are forced to flee by themselves and their children from perishment, and seek refuge in safe countries to take refuge in them. Among these immigrants, there are higher officials, qualified people, and scholars... How can these immigrants integrate into the Diaspora and employ their qualifications? How can they reach the vital centers and institutions in the city?
The goal:
Designing a responsive website and application to reach the largest number of people, regardless of their health capabilities, and ethnic linguistic differences, so that they can introduce themselves and facilitate their integration through several programs and activities.
My role:
UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery
Responsibilities:
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.
The User Understanding:
●User research ●Personas ●Problem statements ●Competitive audit ●Ideation
User research: summary
I searched the user's problem, and I tried to include in my research the most important pain points and problems that the user suffers from, as most migrants of all types, ages, and inclinations suffer from forms of integration within the community due to the language barrier and the difference in culture and pattern. But research also revealed that language and culture were not the only workers to limit users to merging. Rather, there are forms of the absence of a platform or application that allows immigrants from a personal page to display their qualifications and skills, a platform that facilitates the user to reach the most important vital centers in the city, and other user problems included obligations, interests or material challenges ..., after identifying most of the pain points, understanding and studying a statement The problem, I built a hypothesis to solve problems.
Persona: Rania
Problem statement:
Rania is a master's student, Rania needs to integrate into society and return to her social activities, as is the case in her home country.
Persona: Jordi
Problem statement:
Jordi is an athlete, as he is an immigrant because of the war, and is unemployed, and due to his material social conditions, Sami cannot engage in his social and sports activities. He is looking for a job or training opportunity
Competitive audit
An audit of a few competitors’ products provided direction on gaps and opportunities to address with the Fusion app.
Ideation
I did a quick thinking exercise to come up with ideas on how to address the gaps identified in competitive auditing. My focus was specifically on how to make the app straightforward to use. To reach the largest number of users
Starting the design
●Digital wireframes ●Low-fidelity prototype ●Usability studies
Digital wireframes
After some thought and drafting of paper wireframes, I created the initial designs for the Fusion app. These designs focused on providing users with personalized instructions for registering, introducing their skills, accessing city facilities, and accessing chats.
Low-fidelity prototype
To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of viewing an item about to expire and using it in a recipe.
Usability study: parameters
Study type: Moderated usability study Location: Espana-- reus Participants: 5 participants
Length: 30-60 minutes
Refining the design
●Mockups ●High-fidelity prototype ●Accessibility
Mockups
Based on insights from usability studies, I implemented design changes such as providing a clear section of the home screen to access the app sections at the bottom of the app.
Mockups
Additional design changes included adding a search fringe to the map page, and providing a clearer indication of several important amenities in the city.
High-fidelity prototype
The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including design changes made after the usability study.
Accessibility considerations
1. Making chatting and communication easy, familiar, and uncomplicated makes it easy for everyone.
2. The home screen's initial focus on personalized recommendations helps determine the user's primary task or action.
3. Clear labels for interactive elements that can be read by screen readers
Responsive Design
●Information architecture ●Responsive design
Sitemap
With the app designs completed, I started work on designing the responsive website. I used the Fusion sitemap to guide the organizational structure of each screen’s design to ensure a cohesive and consistent experience across devices.
Responsive designs
Designs for different screen sizes included large-size mobile phones, android phones, and desktops. I have optimized the designs to fit the specific user needs of each device and screen size.
Users confirmed that the application and the site make them close to each other and make it easier for them to get to know and explore the city distinctively and easily. One of the quotes from colleagues' comments was, "The FUSION app helps to form relationships with others and express oneself easily and engagingly."
I learned that even though the problem I was trying to solve was a big one, diligently going through each step of the design process and aligning with specific user needs to be helped me come up with solutions that were both feasible and useful.
Next steps
Organizing interviews and meetings with immigrants and officials to come up with new recommendations.
Create good ideas in coordination with the competent authorities in the matter of immigration.
Conduct research on the success of the application in reaching the goal of integrating immigrants and achieving a happy life for them.
