I am an African Development Economist and Industrial Policy Specialist with progressive professional experience supporting governments, regional organisations, development finance institutions and international organisations to design, implement and evaluate industrial development, regional integration and structural transformation policies across Africa. 

My expertise spans industrial policy, green industrialisation, regional value chains, innovation systems, trade competitiveness and productive transformation, with a strong focus on translating rigorous research into practical policy solutions. I have extensive experience leading and contributing to multi-country policy advisory assignments, technical studies and flagship reports for organisations including UNECA, UNIDO, UNCTAD, the World Bank, UNESCO, ACET, UNU-WIDER and the ILO. I have also published in leading academic journals, including Resources Policy, Energy Economics, World Development, Technovation, Applied Energy, Research Policy, South African Journal of Economics and Energy Policy.

I have worked at the University of Oxford, Maastricht University, International Labour Organization (ILO-Geneva), and I currently serve as Associate Professor of Development Economics within the DSI/NRF South African Research Chair in Industrial Development at the University of Johannesburg, where I lead research and policy engagement on industrial development, regional integration and Africa's green and digital transformation. I serve as an Expert on the United Nations Secretary-General's Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals, contributing to global policy recommendations on value addition, industrial diversification and sustainable mineral governance. I am also a member of the International Advisory Board (IAB) of the Journal of Review of International Political Economy (RIPE) and an Energy Transition Africa Fellow.

I hold a PhD in the Economics of Innovation, Policy Studies of Technical Change and Governance from Maastricht University and UNU-MERIT, the Netherlands.
