In the history of English language teaching, the notion of English language teaching methods has been studied, examined, experienced and evaluated over years. However, the question always arises: which one is the best ELT method?
One way to think of these methods is to compare them to a 'tourist’s guidebook'. The guidebook would inform the tourist about all of the important places to visit. It would also give details about popular restaurants, hotels and entertainment option. However, all of these are just suggestions as the guidebook writer does not know the particular tourist (along with his/her preferences and dislikes) who is reading the book. Even if the guidebook is packed with wonderful suggestions, the tourist will still need to customize the book in his/her own way.
Therefore, we can say that there is no perfect method that suits best to all. This means that you are in a position to discover the best method for your own teaching context. At the end of the day, we are sure that many teachers use these ELT methods being fully aware of them by focusing on their function in their teaching contexts.
For that purpose, we share ELT methods and approaches in the upcoming pages of our site. We call this part of the site a tourist's guidebook and we suggest you read them all and find your way to reach your desired - destination in your world of ELT.
