“The mission of the Andrews Forest Program is to support research on forests, streams, and watersheds, and to foster strong collaboration among ecosystem science, education, natural resource management, and the humanities.” (OSU, 2022)
Established in 1948, H.J. Andrews' (HJA) original purpose was to study the effects of different logging methods. In the 1970s the HJA’s value to research was recognized and the site became a full-time research center. HJA is now one of 28 long-term ecological research (LTER) sites nationwide. The LTER program supports long-term studies and environmental monitoring and encourages research that spans generations. They support research on forests and waterways, with an emphasis on blending science, management, education, and the humanities.
