As a macroeconomist with expertise in applied econometrics, I am interested in teaching and research. In terms of research, I am pursuing questions about the influence of the functional distribution of income in macroeconomic political cycles, theoretical work to synthesize structural macroeconomics with recent work in new institutionalist political economy and agent-based cultural economics models of how conflict and cooperation originate under capitalism. I am also working in political philosophy around the development of the Latin American idea of governance, and the nature of liberalism in the current age, especially as it comes under threat of populist and authoritarian movements.
With regards to teaching, I coach students to nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity about economics through the use of innovative classroom techniques, personal engagement and an emphasis in conceptual and mathematical tools by stressing writing and problem-solving.
