Materiality Explored
Listen to the materials, don't direct them. Nothing exists in total isolation, it's the interaction of forces that shapes the outcome. The historical use of the material leaves evidence of journaling, how the material connects with another will influence its future journey. My ways of working embraces happenstance, building character.
Unknown Destinations
Trusting in the process, removing the barriers of perfection and opening up the possibility of the unknown makes every project an adventure. Not every interaction will lead to a successful outcome in terms of production; but every interaction will shape me and brings with it the opportunity to learn.
Authenticity
Staying authentic to the process, to core values, exploring the emotional landscape. When the work feels fresh and is an extension of myself, more than athetics, there is a comfort in Authenticity. A truth that allows such honesty of work. It also allows me the freedom to feel comfortable with others taking a different persective with my work, if it resonates with the viewer then that brings another layer of authenticity that I could not have forseen.
Transformational
With each piece of work, I change, I adapt, I grow. I am not the person I once was and someday I will be someone different again. This is an ongoing process and whilst I mourn the person I was, I trust that my transformation will lead to a better version of me. I forgive the person I was in order to have peace and move on. This process is not easy.
Tactility
I want the viewer to experience the same need to interact with my work that I feel. Work that for safety reasons cannot be touched will need to protected. But, I want to create a body of work that will be touched and interacted with and that this engagement will add to the works history and journey.
