I enjoy working on multiple projects, often in different locations. Coffee shops make interesting studio spaces for portable projects. My studios walls are decorated with sketches exploring topics I come across on a daily basis. Conversation, conundrums, a variety of creative skills merge to become something new or inspire a new direction. These are Fragments (tadpoles), not yet full blown projects. This is the begining, I try to not have a specific outcome in mind, just questions and exploration.
Deborah asked me why they needed to be coloured. I think this is because colour is how I negotiate life. I can express myself without words, but not without colour. Happy is about bright retina searing colours, CMYK pallette. This piece is about Anxiety and depression, Ochra, Carbon Black, dangerous Red. The colours will be added as performance. Taking inpiration from EA Poe's 'Dream with in a Dream'.
Stephen and I discussed my need to make things asthetically pleasing. Through conversations in my sketchbook, a video on demand art course on laying out the perfect picture, my asthetics are becoming clearer. The goal is to create a project where I become unable to control the asthetics. Where the action is done in such a way as to elimate choices. I started with 48 purchased cotton gloves (I'm doubting how much cotton is in them but that is out of my control). Sewing them together with a large needle and thick cotton. Cutting and ripping holes in a piece of rag to make the piece.
