Scientists discovered that Formaldehyde was one of the first substances in the universe from around 13.7 billion years ago. But the first report of formaldehyde was in 1859. Commercial production of formaldehyde then started in the 1880s in Belgium and France, and in the 1900 hundreds, the US finally started producing it for themselves. It is now an essential adhesive for wood products and in 1940 the first commercial-grade particle board was produced.
