Innovative Leader

As an innovative leader, I am committed to engaging positively with my students and colleagues, constantly working to facilitate meaningful conversation and construct new ideas. I'm ready to discuss the most difficult issues that exist in music education, and to work to resolve them, creating a productive, optimistic, and inclusive musical community. I am prepared to encourage my students in their love of music and find new ways for them to pursue their passion. And for those who are less excited by music, I am motivated to help them develop musical appreciation through in-depth investigation and discovery. I am a support to all students and colleagues, and I aim to progress the development of music education through classroom discovery.

Teacher Interview Project

One of the best ways to learn and gain new ideas is by talking with other professionals in the education field. In March 2021, I interviewed Mrs. Lizbee Hannah, the chorus teacher at New Richmond High School in New Richmond, Ohio. We discussed a wide variety of topics, including her teaching career, concert repertoire, the important characteristics of a teacher, and musical activities outside of standard concert repertoire. I gained quite a bit of insight and many new ideas from our conversation, and I'm excited to apply what I learned in the classroom. I'm also looking forward to developing my own ideas based on what I've learned from other teachers, which is why I'm motivated to continue speaking with professionals to gain more expertise in the field of education. Below, I've provided the interview transcript, my summary, and some ideas I have based on our conversation.

Listening Map Project

For this assignment, I created a listening map for "In the Hall of the Mountain King." The listening map is meant to help students understand contour, dynamics, tempo, and other musical elements through visual cues on the map. I also incorporated physical elements into the lesson plan, where students use the listening map to incorporate some choreography/body movement to the piece.

Why Music Education Paper

In this paper, I describe why I chose to pursue music education and what I plan for my future classroom to look like. I spend time detailing my positive musical experiences in the K-12 school system and my ideas as a future teacher. Based on my extensive past experiences and my ideas, I will definitely be an innovative leader in the classroom. My paper is at the link below:
