Ravenwood High School partners every year with Make-A-Wish to raise money and send a child to Disney World. Our biggest fundraiser is the Mr. RHS pageant and I was chosen to be one of only a few of the leaders that would orchestrate the entire event and help the boys in the pageant prepare all of their acts and dances. It was a huge time commitment as on top of organizing the event we practiced twice a week for 2 months leading up to show day and on show day we are at the school all day until the show is over. All of the prep work was beyond worth it when I got to watch all of the boys who are so different from each other come together and step up for a good cause. I was astounded by the amount of money raised and we were even able to grant two wishes last year.
This year, the show was just as much of a success. I got to take over and direct the whole show as I am a senior this year and it was so much fun. Everyone involved worked so hard to make the show happen and we surpassed our fundrasing goal again!
In addition to planning the pageant, I also have taken part in planning the wish reveal for our wish kid and their both years. Ravenwood is known for hosting an extravagant wish reveal with many princes and princesses for our wish kid to meet and interact with and it is publicized by local media. It is always such a joy to tell the sweet families we get partnered with that they get an all expense paid trip to Disney World. These families have been burdened by medical expenses and various hardships but our goal is to make these days so special for them so they never forget it.
