Training FAQs

That's something that we will figure out along this journey. When we discuss you and your dog's specific needs and goals, we will be able to work together to figure out if Elite Paws K9 is the right fit for you and your dog! Being open to new training techniques, and coming into the program with an open mind and understanding that training is only consistent when you put in the work is important to consider!

Dog training is all about communication. Different training goals require different language, and expanding your vocabulary with your dog is done with the use of multiple tools and methods. We use all four psychological quadrants at Elite Paws K9, and a variety of training tools including prong collars and E-collars. These tools are only used after the dogs understands the commands, and are conditioned to the tools. These tools ensure reliability and helps your dog and you to follow through with each skill learned and maintained. These tools are in NO WAY used as force, fear, or pain to teach commands. With us, your dog will learn how to confidently and appropriately take corrections when necessary, and to become reliable dogs in every aspect of life.

We are an in-home based training facility. Meaning dogs stay inside of the trainer's home their entire stay. Along with working on behaviors in public, dogs will work on in-home skills such as counter surfing, waiting at thresholds, waiting until released for meals, being calm inside a home, boundaries reactivity, etc. Quality over quantity is an important factor, so the amount of dogs will be lower than the average so that each dog is treated like family, and given plenty of love and attention.

While most trainers only use food, at Elite Paws K9, we believe in using whatever the dog finds most motivating as their reward. That can be play (fetch, tug, personal play, etc.), freedom to explore, affection, or food. Your dog will NOT be starved and forced to work for their meals. Mental and physical health are extremely important, so we will focus on building a bond through fun motivations, rather than starving them to work.

All training packages require a $500 non-refundable deposit to claim and hold your spot! This also goes towards your total package. This deposit can be transferable if you need to push your start date back, but it is non-refundable.

For board and trains, 75% of the remaining balance is due 24 hours before drop off, and the remaining balance is due 24 hours before the go-home session (you will know this about a week before your go-home). You are always more than welcome to pay in full by drop off! Feel free to reach out for other payment options. I am willing to work with you, if you are willing to put in the effort!

I do offer in-home consultations for certain circumstances. This a $75 non-refundable consultation. If you decide to book with us, that $75 will go towards your deposit.

For private sessions, the remaining balance after the deposit is due 24 hours before your first session.

Boarding requires a 25% non-refundable deposit at time of booking, the total remaining balance is due 24 hours before drop-off. A cancellation fee of 50% of the total balance is put in place starting at 72 hours before your drop off date, unless an extreme emergency occurs (left up to trainer's discretion). If you cancel within 24 hours of your drop off date, there will be no refund, unless an extreme emergency occurs.
