Land Accessibility

In this project I evaluated where in the United States have the most access to public land. I decided to use the metric of per capita square miles public lands. I used Urban Area and Public Lands data from the USGS to interpolate data for the whole country.

I used R, ArcGIS, and Adobe Illustrator. Using R I created a compiled data set with Public Land, Urban Area, and Population data. Then inputting the data as point data to ArcGIS I interpolated an overlay of square miles of open land per person for the country. Using Adobe Illustrator I cleaned up the map and added information.

The study showed what locations in the United States had less Public Land area per Capita. I was slightly surprised by the results of my findings. It interested me that the South Central United States had less public land per person. Overall it was interesting to see the per Capita public land.
