The purpose of the Connection and Social Action Committee is to mobilize and inform our members about social and political issues requiring immediate attention.

Since its inception Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® has been in the forefront of effective advocacy and social change that results in equality and equity for all citizens of the world. In 1980 the sorority saw the need for a formal commitment to impact public policy as it affects African Americans and made the Connection Committee (with subsequent name change in 2021) the ninth standing committee of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®.

The PEO’s Connection and Social Action Committee (CASA) maintains this tradition through its advocacy and social campaigns.

❏ SOAR to the Polls- Voter Education, Registration and Mobilization. 

❏ Getting a Seat at the Table -Training Seminars for members seeking elected and appointed offices.

❏ Implement Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Legislative Agenda - Black Maternal Mental Health and Increased Mortality Rates and Black Youth Suicide 

Focused Civic Engagement

❏ Voter Education/Registration/Mobilization: Election Preparation and Mobilization through Education Events (Civics 101), Candidate Forums and Public Policy Events 

❏ Legislative Affairs: AKtivAte and AdvoKAte - promotion of AKA and PEO's Local, State and Federal Legislative Agendas & Social Action Campaigns, Plan and Execute AKA Days and the State and U.S. Capitol

 ❏ Environmental Justice: AKtivAte and AdvoKAte - Slow Climate Change and Prevent Food Insecurity in Our Community! 1908 Garden Project, Grow One -Give One, Recycling and Composting

 ❏ Women and Criminal Justice: AKtivAte and AKdvoKAte - Support for Female Returning Citizens, Survivors of Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Child Welfare/Juvenile Justice
