Gotcha’s and Things to Avoid

Some contractors may try to sell you heat pumps with natural gas backup heating.  You don’t need these in San Diego County.  High-efficiency heat pumps will work anywhere in our county.

Some contractors may try to sell you a backup resistive duct heater that uses electricity to heat the air in the ducts using a resistive heater that is like a giant toaster element.  You don’t need these in San Diego County.  Additionally, even if you never use it, the fact that it could use 50 Amps of electricity can limit the other electric appliances you can add to your home (e.g. an induction range or EV charger).  See our information on Electrifying With a 100 Amp Electrical Panel.
