Class Description
Our Robotics 101 course is led by instructors Ryan and Aarav. This class builds student's skills with basic concepts of robotics, such as planning, coding, and an engineering mindset. We focus on navigating environments with the LEGO EV3 Mindstorms robots, using touch, color, and ultrasonic sensors, planning solutions to challenges with pseudocode, and thinking about robot modifications. This class meets for three hours for three Saturdays in a month. We challenge our students to a high level to introduce them into the world of robotics. The goal of all of this is to either create a foundation for future coding endeavors, or to have a better sense of the robotics portion of the FIRST Lego League Competition.
In this class, we use the LEGO EV3 Mindstorms and Spike Prime. The EV3 robot has many components, each of which communicates directly with a central "brick". There are two types of motors (large and medium) and four types of sensors (color, touch, ultrasonic, and gyro). Students will be exposed to coding concepts that make use of sensors for navigation. We highly encourage them to take notes throughout the class as they make discoveries about programming, robot engineering, and learning from their mistakes as they complete challenges.
Course Topics
