The Electric Bill Estimator is designed to be simple and useful while browsing online. Follow these steps to get started:
Go to the [Chrome Web Store link] and click Add to Chrome.
Once installed, you’ll see the extension icon appear in your browser toolbar.
Click the extension icon to open the popup.
Enter your electricity rate (per kWh) and default voltage.
These preferences are saved automatically in your browser.
When you visit an online store (Amazon, eBay, etc.) or a product page that shows power ratings (e.g., “1500W” or “2kW”), the extension will detect it.
A small tooltip will display the estimated electricity cost and current draw for that appliance.
Highlight any power value (like 2000W or 2HP).
Right-click and choose “Estimate Electricity Cost” from the menu.
Instantly see the cost calculation in a popup.
Open the popup and add multiple appliances with their power ratings.
The extension will calculate the total load, monthly cost, and even suggest the generator or solar panel capacity you might need.
If an appliance requires too much current or leads to high monthly bills, the extension will warn you so you can make smarter choices.
