Madison Common Council | District 14 (2023-2026)
After much thought and personal reflection, I have decided not to seek re-election to the Madison Common Council. It has been an honor and a privilege to represent the constituents of District 14, as well as the residents of the City of Madison.
As Madison continues to grow, it will be imperative that the Common Council focus on providing essential services like public safety, affordable housing options, services to our seniors, youth, and families.
Addressing our ever-increasing tax base must become a priority as prices, everyday expenses, and inflation continue to rise.
Safeguarding our fragile neighborhoods and planning for all income residents will be necessary to encourage inclusive, diverse, and supportive communities. This will require a council that listens to diverse resident input and perspectives, rather than believing they know what is best for city residents, businesses, and their district constituents.
Ultimately, the council serves at the pleasure of the city residents and other constituents. That is what it means to be a civil servant, something I have dedicated my work career to as a state, county and municipal employee and manager for over 40 years.
Serving does not stop here for me, as I have many community volunteer commitments that I will continue after my term of office. But it is time to devote more of my time to personal and family pursuits.
I would like to express my gratitude to the many businesses, union and most importantly individuals, who have endorsed me and continue to support me over my three terms serving as 13th and 14th district Alder in South Madison. Your support has continued to encourage my belief that we can be a better Madison for all residents.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the faith and sacrifice that my family has provided as I devoted more time to my community. They have had to endure quite a bit of unfair and unwarranted personal attacks on my character and have supported my request that they do not respond. God always fights my battles and brings the victory on my behalf, every single time.
- Isadore Knox, Jr. | District 14, Alder.
I'm Isadore Knox Jr. I have lived in South Madison for over 30 years. My wife, Cheryl, and I love our supportive community. After raising five children who have all graduated from college and are successful professionals, I know the value of stable neighborhoods with quality schools, responsive city services, great investments in parks and recreation in economic development, employment opportunities, and diverse housing options.
As a seasoned community leader in Madison, I believe this kind of development does not come without experienced leadership. This is precisely why I hope to continue representing you, Madison, and District 14 from within Madison's Common Council, as the District 14 Alder.
Madison's Common Council passed the city's 2024 capital and operating budgets.
As Alder of District 14 on Madison’s Common Council over the past year, I’ve focused on delivering meaningful results for our community:
Sponsored $103,000 in additional funding for senior case management services and new BIPOC senior agencies.
Advocated for community housing projects that reflect the unique needs of our neighborhoods.
Supported the Body Worn Camera pilot, pushing for increased public safety funding and accountability.
Advocated for youth delinquency intervention and prevention services, planned for youth sports facilities, and promoted violence prevention services.
Sponsored economic development loans for small businesses and nonprofits that uplift community services.
Supports fiscal and budgetary accountability and restraints.
Alder Isadore Knox Jr. of District 14, and members of the City of Madison Common Council joined the Kujichagulia Madison Center for Self-Determiniation for the raising of the Juneteenth Flag Ceremony 2024.

For over 30 years, I have been deeply committed to civic service, championing sustainable change in my neighborhood and community. As a former and current Madison Alder (2005-2007, and 2023-2025), State of Wisconsin & Dane County Government Director, and union member of AFSCME Local, I bring a wealth of experience and dedication to public service.
My work is rooted in the values of equity, accountability, and community investment.
