Elder Vernita Josey was born in the quaint and serene settlement of Hart’s Well Exuma, in the beautiful island of the Bahamas. She is the last of seven children, born to the Late Leader John and the late Arimina Rolle who served as the shepherds of the Mt. Olive Union Baptist Church in Exuma, Bahamas. It was during these formative years that Vernita obtained her core values and developed a passion for the things of God.
Elder Josey received her High School Diploma from the Jordan Prince Williams High School in Nassau Bahamas and shortly thereafter sought Higher Education at the National School of Technology in Miami Fla., where she obtained her Associate of Arts Degree. Elder Josey worked at the Princess Margaret Hospital for 13 years as an E.K.G Technician and upon receiving her degree she transferred to the St. Luke’s Diagnostic Center where she served as a Cardiovascular Technologist for more than 20 years until her retirement in 2008. This Kingdom woman remained driven and achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from Atlantic College and Theological Seminary where she graduated as Valedictorian, and a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Leadership and Organizational Management Skills from New Covenant University St. Augustine Florida.
First Lady Josey serves graciously beside her husband Bishop Arnold Josey at the Commonwealth Mission Baptist Church as Director of Christian Education and Leader of the Intercessory Ministry. She is the illustrious Past President of the Bahamas Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows, the Past Regional Vice President of the Intercontinental Region, Past Vice President At Large of The International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows and A Proud 2023 Graduate of the First cohort of the Leadership Academy. She presently holds the position of Chair of the Executive Board of that Sisterhood. These positions have afforded her the opportunity to herald the ‘Word of God’ in many countries, including the United States, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Guyana, Bermuda, Canada, Trinidad, and of course throughout our beautiful family of islands. Elder Josey served as Director for The Pastors Wives Division for the Global United Fellowship Bahamas Region and has been recently named as ‘Mother’ of that fellowship Bahamas Region.
Elder Josey was inducted into the International Association of Minister’s Wives & Ministers’ Widows ‘Hall of Fame and was also the recipient of the Bahamas’ Woman of Excellence National Award. This Trailblazer along with her daughter Davonia Williams, are the Founders of a Non – Profit Organization called “Mother Me Ministries”, a God-Given Mandate to minister hope and healing to mothers and daughters throughout our nation and indeed the world.
Amidst all of Elder Josey’s accomplishments she is most grateful for her amazing husband of 42 years Bishop Arnold Josey and the beautiful family that they have built together. This union is blessed with three beautiful children, Minister Davonia, Arnold II, and Alvin Cleveland, a son in law Jochlano Williams, a daughter in law Christen Josey and 6 grandchildren Steven, Steffon, Jaheim, Jace, Aliyah and Ajae.
Elder Josey is not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and has made it her life’s mission to be a Beacon of Light in this dark world. This Transformational Leader believes in reaching beyond Denominational Lines to minister to the hurt and broken as well as Bridging the Gap between the Older and the Younger Generation to advance the Kingdom of God in the earth.
