While District 58 funds one field trip for all grade levels at every school, the El Sierra PTA funds a second field trip for Grades 3-6.
Field trips planned for the 2025/26 school year include Chicago History Museum (3rd Grade), Wendela Boat Trip (3rd Grade), Naperville Settlement (4th Grade), Feed My Starving Childer (5th Grade), Medieval Times (6th Grade), and Student Clubs EOY Bowling Event (4th, 5th, 6th Grades).
Field trips like these would not be possible without the support of the PTA.
The Downers Grove Area Council of PTAs invites families to the annual Author Fest, a district-wide celebration featuring visits from children’s authors - Maddie Frost, Dev Petty, Matthew Eicheldinger. From April 22nd to the 24th, District 58’s 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders meet with these authors to learn about the writing and illustration process, with some students also enjoying small-group lunch discussions.
Author Fest is sponsored by the Downers Grove Area Council of PTAs with support from the District 58 Education Foundation, and a portion of books purchased through the event helps fund future PTA programming.
The El Sierra PTA is arranging for The Wheel of Wisdom assembly for the school on February 24, 2026. The Wheel of Wisdom is a high-energy, game-show-style assembly that brings students together for fun and friendly competition. Participants spin a colorful wheel and answer trivia questions ranging from academics to pop-culture challenges, all while classmates cheer them on. This interactive event boosts school spirit, reinforces learning, and gives students a chance to shine in an exciting, engaging environment.
The PTA is looking at putting on additional assemblies for the students. If you have suggestion, please let us know.
Field Day is a fun-filled day of outdoor games and activities for all El Sierra students during regular school hours. It’s a favorite end-of-year tradition, and parent volunteers are essential to help run stations, cheer on students, and keep the event running smoothly.
Field day will take place Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Be on the lookout to volunteer as all parents are welcome to help make it a fun filled event.
The 5th and 6th Grade Farewell celebrates our oldest students with a special breakfast party and a fun students-vs-teachers volleyball game. Each grade also participates in Outdoor Education—5th graders in October and 6th graders in May—making this a memorable capstone to their time at El Sierra.
