Graphic Design 1 Course Syllabus

Course Description:
Explore Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as image manipulation and design tools. Learn how to use photos from digital cameras and scanned images to create both art and business media. Apply principles of color theory and design to the work you create. Learn how to use drawing programs as illustration tools to create special effects with text and graphics. Discover career and job opportunities that employ skills learned in this class. There is a $10.00 fee for supplies.
CTE Dual Credit Eligible:
This course is CTE Dual Credit (also known as Tech Prep College Connections www.techprepcc.org ) approved and articulated with Bellevue College. Students who demonstrate proficiency of the college course competencies with a ‘B’ (3.0) or better grade may be eligible to earn college credit through the Tech Prep program. Students must register online using the statewide enrollment and reporting system http://sers.techprepwa.org and also are required to pay a non-refundable $50 annual consortium fee to earn college credit through the Tech Prep College Connections program (http://pay.techprepcc.org). Students MUST register for Tech Prep college credit while they are enrolled in the high school course. Students must register for CTE Dual Credit (Tech Prep) credit while they are enrolled in the high school program.
Leadership Opportunities
In addition to opportunities within the classroom, students also have the option to join Technology Student Association (TSA), a national organization of students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). With a membership of over 233,000 middle and high school students in approximately 2,000 schools spanning 49 states, TSA is supported by educators, parents and business leaders who believe in the need for a technologically literate society. Members learn through exciting competitive events, leadership opportunities and much more. The club meets after school with Adviser Ms. Johns (day and time TBD). We will have a final that employs both Photoshop and Illustrator skills, in addition to your creativity and imagination. You will have about a week to complete the final exam.
Grading Scale:
A = 93-100%
A- = 90-92%
B+ = 88-89%
B = 83-87%
B- = 80-82%
C+ = 78-79%
C = 73-77%
C- = 70-72%
D+ = 68-69%
D = 60-67%
F = 59% and below
