René Tammen
PhD Student
Hey! I'm a PhD student at NTNU, where I've been diving deep into the fascinating world of clay and clay minerals since February 2023. Under the supervision of Erika Eiser and co-supervision of Klaartje de Weerdt, my research focuses on the chemical and physical behavior of these materials, especially in the context of quick clay formations.
My research is part of the interdisciplinary project Sustainable Stable Ground (SSG), funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN). Our goal is to understand quick clay from the atomic to the geological scale. I personally focus on the sub-micron scale, conducting laboratory experiments on clay samples. With this knowledge, we're working toward innovative and eco-friendly methods for stabilizing quick clay—significantly reducing the carbon footprint compared to traditional lime-cement stabilization techniques.
I hold a Masters´s degree in Geology from the University of Hannover, Germany, where I focused on Geochemistry. My theises was about high- tamperature and presser experiments on synthetic baslat. My thesis focused on high-temperature and pressure experiments on synthetic basalt. In addition to my academic training, I gained hands-on experience working as a Geologist at Eurofins Labtium Oy in Finland, contributing to mineral testing and laboratory analysis.
