The Knowhere Express was a project I did during my first year at the HKU. It was an entry for the Global Game Jam 2022, made by a team of 5 from multiple disciplines and years at the HKU (nicknamed Studio Ondersteboven). Within three days, we created an experience around the theme 'duality'. The game takes you on a journey through the afterlife. You are the conductor of a train that transports the souls of the deceased to their final destinations. Your task is to help deliver them to the right place by communicating with them and figuring out their final wishes, before it's too late to save them.
My role in this project was coming up with the initial design surrounding the theme 'duality', designing and creating the characters, and writing dialog for them. Apart from that, I also composed the main theme of the game.
Working in a team with people from different courses and different years was an amazing experience. It helped me better understand and grasp efficient and professional teamwork and communication. Since we were stuck in a room with eachother for practically three days straights, this was a crucial part of the project. It also helped me learn to step forward and share my input in a team more, which helped me tremendously in later projects, since I wasn't as nervous to speak up and take the initiative.
