Kurkuna

The name takes inspiration from the first original tune the band composed and played together: a 10/8 Armenian rhythm called cùrcuna (pronounced tzùrtzuna). The project comes from the willing to create an original sound that dives into traditional music from Mediterranean culture and melts with free jazz and improvisation; a goal equally pursued by the project “Medinea” where two of the members met each other during the Nuoro session in August 2022. Having just recorded a short Ep with all originals and collectively composed tunes which will come out soon, the four musicians (currently based between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Athens), will start their first tour on January 2025.
