Dear Community Partner,
Maynard Evans High School is a school located in Orlando, Florida in the Pine Hills area. Evans High School has a motto we live by: Pride, Determination, and Perseverance. These are important values to our school community because, while we do not reside in an affluent area, we strive to ensure that demography does not determine the destiny of our students. It is important they can take pride in their work and push through difficult circumstances. This has allowed our school to achieve various academic and athletic awards despite hardships. As a school, we feel it is our responsibility to provide all students with the education they need to succeed in a safe environment where they feel welcomed, confident and supported. We cannot do this alone!
To assist our students in acquiring the skills necessary to reach their full potential, Evans High is committed to establishing cooperative and lasting partnerships between home, school, and the community. Evans is a Title 1 school where 100% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. While Title 1 provides our school with additional federal funding, it does not make up for the high poverty area in which we reside. When the need arises, other high schools in our district have the ability to raise funds through donations from the community and athletic boosters. Instead, our coaches must focus on the essentials (nutrition, basic equipment for any student such as sneakers and daily practice gear) to compete with other schools. Lack of funding has created a tremendous gap for all stakeholders and gives other schools an edge when it comes to competition.
We are soliciting donations for the Football Program here at Evans to help us provide our team with instrumental resources that allow a more even playing field when facing teams who come to school with their basic needs met on a daily basis. With your donation we are hoping to purchase items such as protein shakes, healthy pre game meals, additional equipment, and more. This would not only allow for our students to compete at the same level as our rivals, but increase school pride and ensure our athletes can have new, modern, safe equipment.
