The Ehrlich Lab is a new research group at VCU exploring how GPCRs communicate within neurons and how the organization and trafficking of these receptors shape neuromodulation.
The lab is currently in its early stages, with Dr. Aliza Ehrlich leading the group as we build our research program and team. We are excited to welcome new members who are curious, collaborative, and enthusiastic about cell biology and neuroscience.
Principal Investigator
Aliza Ehrlich is a neuroscientist and cell biologist whose research focuses on understanding how G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are organized, trafficked, and regulated in neurons. Her lab investigates how the spatial organization of GPCR signaling shapes neuromodulation, with a particular interest in receptor trafficking and signaling within specialized neuronal compartments, including the primary cilium.
Dr. Ehrlich received her doctoral training at Kyoto University in Japan and completed postdoctoral training in France and Canada before establishing her research program at UCSF. She joined VCU’s School of Life Sciences in 2026, where she leads the Ehrlich Lab.
Outside of the lab, she enjoys running distances from 5K to half marathons, spending time outdoors with her family and two young boys, and cooking, especially when there is a sweet treat involved.
