Research for sustainability is the theme of the lab. We apply genomics and metagenomics to investigate environmental issues, understand marginalized ethnic people and their habitats as well as their food habits and livelihood patterns. Along with that we also collaborate with academic institutions to understand drug repurposing and study complex pathogen genomes with the help of computational biology and bioinformatics tools.
The project aims to characterize the rhizospheric and endophytic microflora of the true mangroves and abundant fern flora of the Indian Sunderbans to sustain the replantation programmes for successful habitat restoration
This project aims to identify the GBP of representative members of three tribes of West Bengal (Savar, Mech and Bhutia) to generate an insight into their food habits and screen gut microbes which can be associated with undernourishment.
As the pandemic struck us in 2020, we were caught unawares as to how we can monitor the spread and build up of pathogenic load in the environment. My team identifies effective genomics based methods for monitoring and predicting pathogen surveillance in urban and rural wastewaters which has the potential to predict the next pandemic.
Shigella species are gram negative enteropathogens, contributing to 165 million diarrheal episodes annually across the globe. Here the team attempts to exploit in-silico approaches to analyse the pangenome of different Shigella flexneri strains that have been isolated from diverse geographical regions, to reveal prospective therapeutic targets
Candidates should be motivated, dedicated with excellent oratory and interpersonal skills. The most valued criteria is the ability to be selfless and work for the betterment of the team. We also encourage people with extracurricular skills and interest in sports.
