The video is showing a UFC fighter cutting weight and this is very similar to how wrestlers will cut weight and how they feel. You are able to see and hear her pain through out the video. One of the most common ways to cut weight is wearing a sweat suit while running. Tragically, one case of this resulted in the death of a wrestler. According to KSN local news “Damian Mendez, who recently graduated in 2022, died after a run. His mother says he was wearing a sweat-suit on Saturday. His mother says Damian’s internal body temperature was 107 degrees” (Newton and Adamson Family says Dodge City wrestler dies of apparent heat stroke). I knew of Damian because he had wrestled one of my teammates and beat him at High School Nationals to become a national champion. This was such an unfortunate situation and caused rules to be put in place to prevent this type of weight cutting. However the weight cutting rules are only fully applied in college. For example, one rule is about sweating aids, that states “Regardless of purpose, the use of vapor-impermeable suits (e.g., rubber, rubberized nylon or neoprene) or any similar devices or material used for weight loss is prohibited” (Official Rules of The NCAA Wrestling 2023-24 and 2024-25 page. 78). Personally, after my high school wrestling season ended, I experienced the negative effects of weight cutting in a different way. My body didn't know what to do after I started eating sweets and fatty foods that caused me to vomit during school and there were also moments where I felt I couldn't control my bladder.
