It was never Miles's dream to become an itinerant clerical worker for a mid-level temp agency. He was writing his thesis on "multiple dimensions and the dynamic balance of the universe" until the loans ran out. This niche expertise actually comes in handy after he moves into Apartment 1313. Smart and typically serious, Miles has been the Ego to best friend Jordan's Id, ever since they bonded over their mutual love of guitar hero Miles Jordan in college.
Jordan earns her “sandwich money” as a bike messenger, which is the only job she's been able to keep more than 6 weeks. So she was psyched to get the rent discount that comes with her new responsibilities as Special Assistant to the Special Man. Fun-loving with reliable instincts, Jordan has been the Id to best friend Miles's Ego , ever since they bonded over their mutual love of guitar hero Miles Jordan in college.
As he says to Miles and Jordan, "I'm the Seventh Son of the Seventh Sun. Scholars name me The Cosmic Doorman to Infinite Stars. But my friends call me Special Man." Though he was displeased with the last few Special Assistants, Special Man developed a good feeling about Miles and Jordan, once they revealed their mutual love of guitar hero Miles Jordan. Special Man maintains a balanced population of D13 energy on the building premises, in order to prevent the universe from "sucking itself into its own face".
The legendary "Fingerprince" himself, Miles Jordan is an undisputed guitar hero and creator of his own musical genre "jazz fusion/prog rock/fusion jazz". During a sophomore year kegger, Miles and Jordan became near-instant best friends when they simultaneously name Miles Jordan as their favorite musician, and the Fingerprince has remained a central figure in their relationship. Mutual Love of Miles Jordan also grants the best friends an initial means of bonding with Special Man (also a superfan).
Belinda Drabbens is the nice lady who lives in 714, though she's often found snooping around the 13th floor looking for gossip. She's not above exploiting Miles and Jordan's explicitly stated desire to achieve "honorary grandson status". Though wary of her 13th Dimensional neighbors, she makes an exception for Mushy Fustache, a D13 gentleman with whom she shares a love of hard candies and "harumphing".
A resident of Apartment 1213, Bob Anne is a video game coder who sells her art online and dungeon masters a weekly role-playing session, She is the subject of respectful crushes by Miles and Jordan, much to the chagrin of her roommate Bunnie.
An installation installer who's never seen without his trademark "loosie" tucked under the sleeve of his tight white T-shirt, Hurley Surlihy is distrustful of his 13th-floor neighbors. Underneath all that anger he's a bit of a lonely guy to be honest.
Darva Darvae is a resident of the 13th Floor, and candidate in the upcoming election for Tenant Board President. A mover, shaker, and social climber, Darva does what it takes to get ahead.
Ted Crumpleman is the current Tenant Board President of 13 13th Avenue. A skilled politician, he also acts as a liaison between the Board and Special Man. It's whispered that he maintains his power with the help of shadowy patrons.
VIncent Saint-Onge is the superintendent and property manager for 13 13th Avenue, the responsibilities of which often leave him in a sour mood. Other than his D13 assistant Rasco, his closest friend is Plungy, a plunger on which he's crudely drawn a face so he feels more comfortable talking to it.
As Vincent Saint-Onge's assistant, Rasco is in charge of maintenance on the 13th floor. Rasco is a humble good 13th dimensional being.
Pring is one of the first new arrivals that Stanley and Jordan help settle into the 13th floor, and life in the 3rd Dimension. His loud footsteps cause tension with the angry resident who lives below him Hurley Surlihy.
At 7 trillion, Mushy Fustache is old even by 13th Dimension standards. He’s earned his sour tendencies mood over eons of life.
