The Reptile Smart Tank is a controlled environment designed to have ideal parameters for a pet reptile’s enclosure. It imitates the natural habitat of the reptile by controlling lights, heating, and humidity to their specific needs. A water dispenser that automatically refills will also be implemented, ensuring the animal has access to clean water. These parameters can be set to a default or can also be controlled via user input through a website or app. A user-friendly interface will allow for the pet owner to view data collected from sensors placed in the tank and to set new parameters remotely with a WiFi connection. It is meant to be conveniently used for pet owners who spend time away from home but still want to monitor the well-being of their pet.
Project Proposal Excerpt
Of the population of American pet owners, reptiles are found in 1.8 million households. Having appropriate pet care is instrumental in these households to ethically maintain the health of their pet. For all animals, their species determines the husbandry and what kinds of physical requirements must be met. This is the baseline for determining our project specifications.
The members of our team all have experience in owning different types of pets and have noted the challenges in maintaining their care. Often, many different devices are needed to control the environment of the enclosure, such as heaters, filters, lights, misters, etc. This results in a cluttered mess of cables and the need for many outlets. With our Reptile Smart Tank, all of these devices will be integrated into one control unit and additional cables will be tucked away from view. e Reptile Smart Tank is a controlled environment designed to have ideal parameters for a pet reptile’s enclosure.
