Of course I do have other interests apart from my academic work. In this section I briefly describe them.
Probably my biggest passion. I support Colo-Colo, the most popular team here in Chile, and I also feel a very strong connection with West Ham United from London, known as the Academy of English Football. I started a blog where I try to share tactical analyses of matches and concepts — you can check it out here: : Modestos Análisis de Fútbol. I’m not able to update the blog as frequently as I would like due to my work commitments, but I try to keep an eye on it.
In the near future, I would like to pursue studies to become a certified football coach.
Comedy is something I’m deeply enthusiastic about. I love exploring new styles, learning from different comedians, and discovering fresh talent. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll step onto the stage and share my own material.
While stand-up and sitcoms hold a special place in my heart, I also appreciate the brilliance of a perfectly crafted one-liner or a sketch. My favorite styles are deadpan comedy and dark humor—genres that masterfully balance wit and boldness.
When it comes to sitcoms, some of my all-time favorites include Peep Show, Community, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Seinfeld. As for comedians, some of those I admire are Monty Python, Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr, Cano Saavedra, Felo, Mitch Hedberg, Michael Richards, Demetri Martin, George Carlin, Anthony Jeselnik, and Steven Wright.
Below, I’ve shared a few lines that I find particularly amusing—hope they bring you a laugh too!
Una vez vi un camaleón, era un mal camaleón.
¿Quieren escuchar un anti acertijo? (...) Es un plátano.
Me encontré una botella en la playa con un papel dentro que decía: "Hello, my name is John Phillips. My ship has wrecked during a storm and now I'm trapped in an island. Here are my coordinates". Y yo la devolví diciendo "pucha, no sé inglés".
I like rice. Rice is great when you are hungry and you want to eat 2.000 of something.
A guy showed me a picture of him and told me, "Hey here is a picture of me when I was younger". Man, every picture is of you when you were younger.
I got a belt on that's holding up my pants and my pants have belt loops that hold up my belt. I don't know what's really happening down there. Who is the real hero?
I saw a commercial on late-night TV that said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers!" So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, but I didn't know what the hell they were.
Is a hippopotamus a hippopotamus, or just a really cool Opotamus?
Woke up this morning and folded my bed back into a couch. Almost broke both my arms cause it’s not that kind of bed.
I spilled spot remover on my dog and now he’s gone .
I’m writing a book. I have the page numbers done; now I just have to fill in the rest.
I went to a place to eat. It said 'breakfast at any time.' So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.
I stayed up one night playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
I have absolutely zero musical talent. In terms of playing an instrument, I have the same skill set as a rotten tomato. However, I do enjoy music very much. In general, I like British rock in various of it forms and I'm also a great fan of 2-tone music, which is a British-born reversion of ska from the late 70s and the early 80s. My favourite bands in this trend are Madness and The Specials. Other very representative bands are The selecter and Bad Manners. If you are interested, I highly recommend checking out these two concerts.
The Specials 30th Anniversary.
I just love food. I love everything about it, from learning about the life of great chefs to (of course) cooking and eating. I believe that there is something really special behind the culinary art, as it is a form of expression. A dish can take your mind and soul to different places and back in time to special moments. If you are honest, you can tell a story with a plate.
"Mother Nature is the true artist and our job as cooks is to allow her to shine." (Marco Pierre White)
